About

The Masters of Media (MofM) blog is a collaborative effort by the New Media Master’s students of the University of Amsterdam. The blog was constructed by the 2006/2007 master’s students as part of the New Media Practices course, taught by Geert Lovink. Now in its second year (or v2.0), the blog is officially the domain of the class of ‘08. Currently, it is populated by about 30 young new media researchers, either nearing completion of their Master’s degrees or recently graduated.

MofM strives to become a recognized authority on what’s going on in the wide world of the Web. We observe, review, criticize and co-create on multiple levels in the broad context of new media.

The New Media M.A. is one of the Master’s programs of Media and Cultural Studies, which is part of the Faculty of Humanities. The various courses also attract new media-oriented students from the two-year Research Master’s in Media Studies programme.

The course New Media Practices looks to develop an understanding of the ways media, particularly new media, address people, and articulate social and cultural practice through diverse forms of engagement. To achieve this, course participation is specifically linked to interaction with the objects of study. Combining this experience with theories of new media not only helps us develop a broader understanding of advancements in technology, it also provides a basis for in-depth perspectives on shifts in our culture.
